 WHAT ABOUT BUYING A USED FOG MACHINE?
We sometimes see used fog machines for sale or
being auctioned online. The problem is that like any electrical/mechanical device, fog
machines are subject to wear and tear, and even if it looks like it's never been used, you
actually have no idea how much run time it has had. Also, re-sold fog machines usually
have no guarantee or warranty. So remember, you get what you pay for!
CAN I SUBSTITUTE
CHEAPER FOG FLUID FOR THE MANUFACTURERS?
We highly recommend against this. First, you
will probably void the machine's warranty and second you could damage some of the
components of the fog machine, such as the heat exchanger and/or pump. Be sure to check
with the manufacturer of your fog machine first. |

WHAT ABOUT SCENTED AND
COLORED FOG FLUID?
 Never simply add some sort
of scented solution or colored dye to fog fluid. If not specifically designed for your fog
machine, doing so could damage the heat exchanger, pump and other components of the fog
machine. Plus, you don't know how the added chemicals will affect people in a vaporized
form. Visual Effects does make scents specifically designed for use with their fog
fluid. They have scents available in tropical, banana, strawberry, vanilla and cherry.
We've suggested they produce an Autumn Pumpkin Spice scent.
CAN YOU COLOR THE FOG FLUID SO THE
FOG COMES OUT COLORED?
Unfortunately, you can't really get fog to tint.
You can color the fluid, but you won't see any difference when the fog comes out. Don't
experiment! Again, you don't know how the added chemicals will affect people in a
vaporized form.
CAN I USE A REMOTE CONTROL MEANT FOR
ONE FOG MACHINE ON ANOTHER?
 While most fog machines use
the same type of three spade connector for their remote controls, you usually cannot use a
different manufacturers remote on your fog machine because they are wired specifically
for that unit and it's voltage system. In fact, we have seen remotes made by the same fog
machine manufacturer that were not interchangeable between their own products. Using a
remote not specifically made for you fog machine will probably void your warranty, could
damage the fog machine and possibly create an electrical fire hazard. We recommend that
you only use accessories, i.e. fog fluid, remote controls, etc. specifically made for your
make and model of fog machine.
SHOULD I NOTIFY MY LOCAL FIRE
DEPARTMENT BEFORE USING A FOG MACHINE?
 If you're going to be generating a lot of fog in your
neighborhood for Halloween it's a good idea to call-up your local fire department a couple
of days before and let them know that you will be using a fog machine or fog machines as
part of your Halloween festivities. This gives them a heads-up that there will be what
might appear to be smoke in your area.
