"Words of Advice from a Drunk"

The more bitter and depressed I am, the more I drink instead of eat; the more content I am, the more I eat instead of drink. It's a fackin' dilemma.
Dave, what is the drinking life but a series of contradictions, catch-22s, paradoxes, dilemmas, self-fulfilling prophecies, and endless spirals? Who'd want or expect it to be any other way?

As Orwell said, "A man may take to drink because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail all the more completely because he drinks."

Or, as a friend of mine once said, "Won't your wife hit the ceiling if you come home drunk again?" To which I responded, "Of course she will; she's a terrible shot!"

Well said. It helps explain why I invariably start drinking Bushmills by the shot - knowing full well the brutality of the Bush hangover that awaits - the night before I'll need to be at full alertness at the crack of dawn.

On the subject: Just Sunday, the lovely Carey and I dropped into a local Mexican restaurant for an early lunch, both of us hoping a heavy dose of jalapenos would help break the nasal logjams our sinus infections were causing us. I was also hoping a few margaritas would help take my mind off my two black eyes and newly crooked nose. As we waited for our table, we drifted to the bar. I order a Bohemia beer. Carey looks at me and says, "You know what I really want? Tequila shots." Her logic was irrefutable.

Three shots and three beers later, as we headed toward our table, she orders us another round and asks me the question all DBs must confront: "Why is it that I always want to take it to the next level instead of just enjoying a nice mellow buzz?"

I was stumped. So I ordered a double shot of Herradura Anejo for the both of us.
