I am currently finishing my PhD thesis by building a model of a beef cattle farm in trying to simulate sustainable farming. I am planning to incorporate an optimisation tool to be used to simulate adaptation of the farm to changing conditions through time. My experience with GA and EA is very limited, and I like to know if there is a sample programming code somewhere that I can use as a guide to develop my own GA/EA program (at this stage, I am thinking on develop a multiple objective evolutionary algorithm. I am currently working with Visual Basic, so it would very much appreciated if you take this into account. Many thanks in advance. Best regards, Alejandro Martinez Alejandro N. SUBMISSION OF PAPERS: Prospective authors are invited to submit three copies of their draft paper (about 5 pages long) to H. R. Arabnia (address is given below) by the due date. E-mail and Fax submissions are also acceptable. The length of the Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will be limited to 7 pages. Papers must not have been previously published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. The first page of the draft paper should include: title of the paper, name, affiliation, postal address, E-mail address, telephone number, and Fax number for each author. The first page should also include the name of the author who will be presenting the paper (if accepted) and a maximum of 5 keywords. Also state the name of the conference you would like your paper to be considered for. PUBLICATION: The conference proceedings will be published by CSREA Press (ISBN) in hardcopy. The proceedings will be available at the conferences site. Some accepted papers will also be considered for journal publication (soon after the conferences). (In addition to the hardcopy, it is also planned to publish the papers on a CD.) LOCATION OF CONFERENCES: The conferences will be held in the Monte Carlo Resort hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. This is a mega hotel with excellent conference facilities and over 3,000 rooms. The hotel is minutes from the Las Vegas airport with free shuttles to and from the airport. This hotel has many vacation and recreational attractions, including: waterfalls, casino, spa, pools & kiddie pools, sunning decks, Easy River water ride, wave pool with cascades, lighted tennis courts, health spa (with workout equipment, whirlpool, sauna, ...), arcade virtual reality game rooms, nightly shows, snack bars, a number of restaurants, shopping area, bars, ... Many of these attractions are open 24 hours a day and most are suitable for families and children. The negotiated hotel's room rate for conference attendees is very reasonable (79USD + tax) per night (no extra charge for double occupancy) for the duration of the conference. The hotel is within walking distance from most other Las Vegas attractions (major shopping areas, recreational destinations, fine dining and night clubs, free street shows, ...). For the benefit of our international colleagues: the state of Nevada neighbors with the states of California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Arizona. Las Vegas is only a few driving hours away from other major cities, including: Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Grand Canyon, ... The group currently has four permanent members of staff, two Research Assistants and thirteen full-time PhD students. A brief description of the proposed research is given below In recent years there has been much interest in developing algorithms that are simply given a set of rules and the algorithm is able to develop a good strategy to optimise its return. This project will develop this work by enhancing and applying these techniques in uncertain environments. Areas of potential research include Stock market portfolios, e.g. what shares to buy/sell Prediction of economic factors such as interest rates. We are already doing some work in this area. We currently use evolutionary strategies to predict future interest rates for Taiwan. Poker. Jonathan Schaeffer (University of Alberta), who runs an internationally recognised game playing research group, has stated Poker is an excellent domain for artificial intelligence research. It offers many new challenges since it is a game of imperfect information, where decisions must be made under conditions of uncertainty. Multiple competing agents must deal with probabilistic knowledge, risk management, deception, and opponent modeling, among other things.
