After learning simple GA & its applications, our students find it more difficult to unerstand and apply GAs to scheduling problems. Due to lack of good experiance in this topic, I need to refer more materials before I explain solutions to their problems. If I get good study/reference materials in the above area, it will be useful to us. Kindly help me. In recent years, the combination of Control Engineering and extensive knowledge of AI techniques has allowed scientists and practitioners to make a number of significant contributions to this rapidly developing field, for example in qualitative control, fuzzy qualitative simulation and model based diagnosis, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), Genetic Algorithms (GAs), Fuzzy Logic (FL), and Neuro-Fuzzy Systems (NFS). The EIS conference series intend to provide researchers and practitioners from industry and academia with a platform to report on recent developments in the area of intelligent systems with focus on applications of computational intelligence techniques to engineering systems. The meeting will also provide a venue for dialogues between software engineers, systems designers and knowledge engineers. The first very successful conference in the series was held in Tenerife, in February 1998 and the follow up event will be held in cooperation with the University in Malaga, Spain, in the year 2002. As before, the intention is to explore the integration of evolutionary / adaptive search (AS) and associated Computational Intelligence (CI) technologies (e.g. neural computing, intelligent agent systems, fuzzy logic etc) across a wide spectrum of design and manufacturing activities. A major objective is the identification of fundamental problem areas that can be generically supported by appropriate evolutionary and adaptive computing strategies. Areas of specific interest include but are not restricted to: a) the development and integration of appropriate evolutionary and adaptive computing strategies that offer best benefit re the differing requirements of conceptual, embodiment and detailed design. b) novel application of appropriate evolutionary / adaptive computing strategies to or integration with complex manufacturing systems e.g. control, planning and scheduling, facility layout, robotics, etc c) the development of co-operative frameworks supporting the utilisation of appropriate combinations of evolutionary / adaptive search and other CI technologies within a design / manufacturing environment d) the application of novel adaptive computing techniques and strategies that address specific design / analysis problems of high complexity. e) human-centred aspects i.e. how can the new technologies best interact with current design practice or alternatively, how can changes in design team practice be introduced to achieve best benefit from the integration of search, exploration and optimisati capabilities of the new technologies? f) multi-disciplinary / multi-objective engineering decision-making relating both to design and manufacture g) reducing computational expense re population-based search during detailed design and analysis h) best practice re integration with high-performance computing, parallel architectures etc v evolutionary and adaptive technologies for innovative and creative design i) development and integration of aesthetic fitness measures j) fitness models for uncertain and poorly-defined environments k) evolving design environments l) agent-assisted evolutionary processes m) integration of evolutionary design with undergraduate / post-graduate teaching and industrial training requirements Applied, theoretical, results-oriented and speculative papers from both academia and industry will all be considered for inclusion. The objective is to assess the current state-of-the-art and to investigate a way forward that ensures rapid industrial take up of the currently available technologies whilst identifying appropriate areas warranting more fundamental research on a longer term basis or medium term applied research and development. Application papers must exhibit novel aspects relating to evolutionary / adaptive system design and implementation. The conference retains its format of single stream presentation and extended poster sessions. The ACDM lecture, established in 1998, will again take place. This 1.5 hour lecture will address in detail some will address in detail some particular aspect of evolutionary / adaptive computing highly relevant to design and manufacture. Following the success of recent ACDM-net / EVODES workshops and their demonstrator / poster presentations format similar opportunities to demonstrate both experimental and commercial evolutionary and adaptive design / manufacture software will be available. Anyone wishing to demonstrate such software should submit a two-page (A4) description by September 15th stating whether this software is currently commercially available or largely researched-based. Important dates: 15th September, '99 Submission of paper for review 15th November, '99 Notification of acceptance 15th January, 2000 Camera-ready copy required Further details will be available at: http://www.tech.plym.ac.uk/soc/research/edc Or contact: Mrs P. SAC 2000 is sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP). SAC 2000 is presented in cooperation with the ACM Special Interest Group on Biomedical Computing (SIGBIO) and the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Uses in Education (SIGCUE). +++ SPECIAL TRACK ON EVOLUTIONARY COMPUTATION AND OPTIMIZATION +++ (Formally the Genetic Algorithms and Optimization Track) Applications using evolutionary computation (genetic algorithms, genetic programming, etc.) and other optimization techniques is one of the major tracks in SAC 2000. This particular track has had enormous success in past years, and we anticipate another set of excellent papers for this conference. The purpose of this track is to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas, research, development activities, and applications among academicians and practitioners in the areas related to evolutionary computation and other optimization techniques in applications. State-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice original papers relevant to the track themes as well as panel proposals are solicited. RELEVANT TOPICS: - Genetic Algorithms - Genetic Programming - Evolutionary Computing - Simulated Annealing - Combinatorial Optimization POSSIBLE KEYWORDS: Representation Genetic Operators Selection Population Dynamics Population size Fitness Functions Difficult functions Dynamic environments Mathematical Foundations Schema analysis Transform analysis Sampling theory Dynamical systems Complexity theory Parallel computation Optimization Implementation techniques Biological modeling Population genetics Molecular genetics Artificial life Evolution and learning Genetic Programming Classifier systems Evolution Strategies Messy Genetic Algorithms Neural Networks Simulated annealing Authors are invited to contribute original papers in all areas of experimental computing and application development for the technical sessions. Panel and workshop proposals which deal with the symposium themes are encouraged. The special tracks form the heart of the symposium. TUTORIALS An integral part of SAC 2000 is the tutorial program. Since the symposium focuses on applications, tutorials tend to stress state-of-the-art technology that may be applied directly to the work of practitioners in the field. Presenters are invited to submit proposals for tutorials in all areas of experimental computing and application development. Tutorials will typically be half-day tutorials. The proposal should include a brief summary and outline, specific goals and objectives, expected background of the audience, a biographical sketch of the presenter, and A/V equipment needed for the presentation. PANELS AND WORKSHOPS Panel proposals are encouraged. Panels and workshops dealing with the state of the art in any aspect of Applied Computing are welcomed. Please send a brief abstract of the topic and the resume/vita of the moderator to the Program Chair by September 1, 1999.
