Noise affects a GA's population sizing requirements, performance characteristics, and computational requirements. This research develops quantitative models for determining the effects of noise on the operation of a GA. Furthermore, the question of how to best optimize the performance of a GA in a noisy environments is investigated. Sampling fitness functions are explored, and techniques for determining the optimal sample size that maximizes the performance of a GA within a fixed computational time bound are presented. I keep finding articles in obscure places. If anybody has an article they believe would be appropriate, please send me either a reference to aldershb@lafayette.edu or, if you would be so kind, a preprint to Brian Aldershof, Mathematics Dept., Lafayette College, Easton, PA 18042. Thanks. ------------------------------ From: Ian Parmee Date: Mon, 2 Jun 1997 09:45:09 GMT Subject: PEDC newsletter The PEDC (Plymouth Engineering Design Centre) has decided to establish a newsletter specifically addressing Evolutionary and Adaptive Computing in Design and Manufacture whilst also addressing complementary soft computing / computational intelligence technologies. The objective is to provide an international source of information with regard to workshops, conferences, special sessions within conferences; new books / journals; notice of available research posts plus anyother information that is relevant to the research and application community in this area. We would also like to include one invited article in each edition from a group / individual describing their research / application; views etc Initially the newsletter will be electronically issued quarterly and a copy of each current issue will be posted on our web page: http://www.tech.plym.ac.uk/soc/research/edc/. Frequency of issue will largely depend, however, upon the amount of information received for distribution. We hope to have our first issue on-line by July 1st '97 so please send any relevant information for inclusion to : jlevers@plymouth.ac.uk There will be a procedure to ensure the relevance of the information submitted. Also if you would like to contribute an article ( approx 2-3 pages A4, 10 font) please contact me (iparmee@plymouth.ac.uk) asap. If you wish to receive the newsletter please inform me(iparmee@plymouth.ac.uk) and I will add your email address to the list. We look forward to hearing from you (hopefully in the positive!) and please distribute this information further if possible. The aim is to focus on relationships between theory and applications in this field. Here are some few topics that will be discussed: - deception analysis in GAs and Holderian exposant - variable size representations for inverse problems in structural mechanics. - interactives GAs with some applications - epistasis for GAs - adaptative landscapes and GAs The official language is French. Please feel free to send us your abstract and affiliation. The deadline for submissions is june 10, 1997. There is no registration fees, there are inexpensive facilities and you will be proposed a typical dinner in a restaurant for thursday night.
